Stand Up Paddleboard Trips & Lessons

Our Grand River stand up paddleboard ( SUP) trips have the option of adding a lesson before you paddle the Paris Route(13km (2.5-3.5 hours)) or taking our slightly more adventurous Glen Morris Route (11kms (2-3 hours).

The stand up paddleboards move at about the same speed as a canoe when paddling and our boards are quite wide and stable compared to some others.

Open 7 days a week from May til October... Trips start between 10am and 1:30pm daily. There is no end time to our trips you just need to be off the water an hour before sunset so leave you watch at home and enjoy yourself.

We meet you at the Birley Gates (142 West River Road S, Brant On. for the Glen Morris trips) or at the Brant Conservation Area (119 Jennings Rd Brantford On. for the Paris Route)… then we shuttle you up to your start point and you paddle/float your way back to your car.

At the start point you are fitted with life jackets and required equipment… then you can launch for your self-guided paddleboard trip... or do a lesson before you start.

The lesson covers:

  1. How to get on and off the board.
  2. Standing positions on SUP
  3. Strokes required to steer the SUP
  4. Choosing your paddle length.
  5. Safety equipment needed and how to use it
  6. How to read the water
  7. On water practice time on the small lake above the dam at the Brant Conservation Area.

Once the instructor likes what they see and you feel confident… then we move you and the stand up paddleboards to Paris the where you begin your paddling adventure.

The 13km paddle on the Paris to Brant route is about 3-4 hours.

Along this SUP route there are fresh water springs to drink from, an old mine form the 1830’s, a picnic area with washrooms and a 400m body surfing area

The cost per person for a SUP trip is $55.00 plus HST… a SUP lesson and trip is $80.00 per person plus HST... trip includes the stand up paddleboard, paddle, life jackets, dry bags for your camera & phones, shuttle back to vehicle and a river map.

Add an instructor guide to paddle with you for $150.00 plus HST per group.

We also offer guided night SUP trips by starlight.

Or you can bring your own SUP and do a lesson…cost is $50 plus HST, includes lesson and shuttle.

With us, there is no time limit, we really encourage you to leave your watches behind and enjoy the day (just be off the water an hour before the sunsets)!

The Glen Morris to Paris Run is about 11km long. This trip has about 6-7 short sections of fast water, 1km in total. Average time for this trip is 2-3 hours. This trip has a picnic area and portapotties at the beginning and end. There are fresh water springs along the way and an island to stop for lunch. This trip ends at the Three Sisters... the oldest rail bridge from the 1850's... looks like something out of Lord of the Rings! There is a lookout on the top of the Three Sisters, which you can hike to from the river.

The Cambridge to Paris starts six kms further north of our Glen Morris starts point.

Paddling the Grand River is a must do!

In our area the river averages 1 meter in depth with a 2 km/hr current speed... so if you tip over, stand up! The wilderness landscape is filled with all types of birds... people find it hard to believe they are one hour from Toronto

You need to make reservations by email or phone in advance... because we meet you where your trip starts.

It is important to recognize that the weather-news channels are about 20% accurate in their daily forecasting... we are around 85% accurate!

If the weather is bad, we will contact you telling you to save your money and not come. With our cancelation you can get a full refund or pick another date... whatever is best for you.

Also if water levels are what we consider unsafe to paddle... we will cancel our trips with the option to raft or go in a non-tip yak... your safety with us is more important than your money!

We are the only incorporated outfitter business on the river carrying full liability as required by the Grand River Conservation Authority.

We have risk management plans in place, adult waivers and youth consent forms... and our interpretive staff is top notch, undergoing a 3 week training course.
