Kayak Lesson Trip ... Suggested Favorite

Try our Grand River kayak trip with a lesson before your trip! This is a great way for a beginner to experience the Paris Route.

We meet you at the Brant Conservation Area… where you do a lesson on land followed by practice session on a calm part of the river. Once the instructor likes what they see and you feel confident...we shuttle you upstream to Paris.

In Paris, we give you a map and review it, make sure you are properly equipped... then launch you to paddle back to your vehicle/campsite.

The 13km paddle on the Paris route takes most people about 2.5-3.5 hours, but if you want you can exit at our early take out point, cutting an hour off the paddle.

Along this Cayuga paddle route there are fresh water springs to drink from, an old mine from the 1830’s, a picnic area with washrooms and a 400m body surfing area.

The route does have some rapids at the start about 1 km downstream... the lesson will hone your skills so you cam easily steer your kayak straight through.

The lesson covers:

  1. How to get in and out of a kayak without tipping
  2. Different types of strokes required to steer the kayak
  3. What to do if you tip over
  4. How to read the water
  5. Safety equipment needed and how to use it
  6. What to look for in purchasing a kayak
  7. On water practice time

The cost per person for a kayak lesson and trip is $80.00 plus HST… includes lesson, the kayak, paddle, life jackets, bailer kit, dry bags for your camera & phones, shuttle upstream to the start point and a river map.

You can add an instructor-guide to paddle with you for $150.00 plus HST per group.

Or you can bring your own kayak and do a lesson…cost is $50 plus HST, includes lesson and shuttle of personal kayak.

With us, there is no time limit, we really encourage you to leave your watches behind and enjoy the day!

Map of Route

Kayaking the Grand River is a must do! In our area the river averages 1 meter in depth with a 2 km/hr current speed... so if you tip over, stand up! The wilderness landscape is filled with all types of birds... people find it hard to believe they are one hour from Toronto

You need to make reservations by email or phone in advance... because we meet you where your trip starts.

It is important to recognize that the weather-news channels are about 20% accurate in their daily forecasting... we are around 85% accurate!

If the weather is bad, we will contact you telling you to save your money and not come. With our cancelation you can get a full refund or pick another date... whatever is best for you.

Also if water levels are what we consider unsafe to paddle... we will cancel our trips with the option to raft or go in a non-tip yak... your safety with us is more important than your money!

We are the only incorporated outfitter business on the river carrying full liability as required by the Grand River Conservation Authority.

We have risk management plans in place, adult waivers and youth consent forms... and our interpretive staff is top notch, undergoing a 3 week training course.
