Canadian Sportfishing
In the spring and summer of 2009 the Grand River and Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company will be featured on the Canadian Sportfishing show with Italo Labignan. The show will be aired across North America on TSN. The show host Italo Labignan uses a kayak to fish for small mouth bass in the “Exceptional Waters” reach of the Grand River between Paris and Brantford, Ontario, Canada. The camera crew was able to travel down river with the host by means of a retro-fitted whitewater raft. Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company has a number of these rafts with fishing platforms built on top of them with bass boat style swivel fishing seats. These platforms offer a great vantage point over the river and make for the perfect casting platform for both spin and fly casting. The Grand River is known for its great Rainbow and Brown Trout fishing as well as Bass, Walleye and fall Steelhead.

Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company offers guided fishing trips on the Grand River and can take you where the fish are biting. From early spring Rainbows and Walleyes to summer Bass and fall Steelhead fishing the Grand River has a lot to offer the angler. Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company also offers fishing kayaks…. and yes the outdoorsman’s best friend the canoe. Being just an hour or so drive from both Toronto or London, Ontario. Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company and the Grand River too are just and hour and a half from Niagara Falls and Buffalo, New York and just two and half hours from Detroit, Michigan so this wonderful outdoorsman’s play ground is so close by. You can drive in from any one of these locations and have a great days fishing, a weekends fishing or make a fishing vacation out of it. There’s lots of area campgrounds run by the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) including Brant Conservation Area and Pinehurst Conservation Area. There are also hotels and B&B’s in the area some of whom offer discounted room rates when you have booked your fishing trip with Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company. If you would like more information on fishing the Grand River contact Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company or pick up the book Fishing the Grand River from your favorite book store, area tackle shop or outfitter. The book Fishing the Grand River has fold out topographical maps of the Grand River watershed as well as access points and fishing tips so it is great resource material for planning that perfect fishing trip. We hope to see you soon on the beautiful and historic Grand River, truly a sportsman’s paradise.

Grand Paddle 2010
This year’s Grand Paddle is proving to be bigger and better than ever. The Grand Paddle will be held on JULY 1st and Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company, area LCBO employees, local fishermen and residents will be participating in the 5th annual Grand Paddle. This non-profit, sponsored event helps rehabilitate the Grand River Watershed. In past events we have generated thousands of dollars which has gone into creek rehabilitation on Whiteman’s Creek and planting almost 3,000 trees in Brant Conservation Area. For the 2007 Grand Paddle we planted over 150 Oak trees in the Oak Savanna at Brant Conservation Area. Along with the tree planting we will be having our annual river clean-up too. This year’s river clean-up will be concentrated on the area below Wilkes Dam to Cockshutt Bridge with special attention being given to Kirby Island where bald eagles were frequently spotted last winter. The proceeds from the event are going into a bald eagle tracking device that will help monitor this majestic raptor’s return to the Grand River watershed. As usual the event will be open to the general public and any special interest groups that wishes to get involved in keeping the Grand the beautiful and historic gem it is.
