All Guided Intro to Canoeing Or Kayaking Eco Adventure Trips  leave from Bean Park in Paris, Ontario. Bean Park is located at 4 Spencer St. (at Race St.) in Paris. This is not the Heritage River location listed on our website but a river access point. At Bean Park you may park at the upper parking lot at the entrance from the street or in legal parking areas on the side streets. Please do not park in the turn around and loading area at the river. Parking at Bean Park is free. The property on both sides of the park is private, please do not trespass for any reason or block driveways. Once you have parked please walk down to the river where Heritage River staff will be waiting. If you require written directions to Bean Park please scroll down.

As our ongoing commitment to safety Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company will not run trips with river flows higher than four times summer flows and water temperature lower than 10 c.

Grand River flows are measured in cubic meters per second (C.M.S) and are monitored hourly in real time.

Things to remember before heading out on the river:

River flows can change drastically within a few minutes due to heavy rain not only in the local paddling area but in the north end of the Grand River watershed. Flows can also rise due to discharge from the reservoirs up stream at Lake Belwood and Lake Conestogo.

The above safety standards apply to all Grand and Nith River canoe, kayak and raft trips run by Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company.

Safety:

The Grand River is known as a very safe river to paddle with an average water depth of about 3’ on the stretch that passes through Cambridge, Glen Morris, Paris and through to Brantford.

At Heritage River we guarantee you that we will not put profit over your safety.  Heritage River has some of the strictest safety standards to be found on the river.  We will not put you out on a trip if it is unsafe to do so.

At Heritage River we monitor river flows, water temperature and weather conditions in real time.  We look at what the conditions are before your trip and what they will be while you are on the river.

Before putting customers on the river we will do a safety orientation with you and your party.  Not only going over basics like paddle strokes but what to do if something happens while on the river.  We are firm believers in the old Boy Scout motto “don’t be scared, be prepared”.

Every year Heritage River puts thousands of people from all over the world on the Grand River and they have safe and enjoyable trips.

Heritage River has an up to date risk management plan in place and works along with other Grand River outfitters and emergency services to keep trips safe no matter what could happen.   Heritage River is fully insured and works along with the Grand River Conservation Authority providing trips for their summer camps.   We also provide trips for many schools and universities.

Environment:

At Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company we believe in giving back to our environment and have been nominated for many environmental awards.  For the past 7 years we have helped organize and sponsor the “Grand Paddle”.  Since its beginning the Grand Paddle has generated thousands of dollars that have gone into watershed rehabilitation projects in the area.  Over three thousand trees have been planted to help re-establish the Oak savannah and Carolinian Forest that the Grand River passes through.  As a major part of the Grand Paddle, Heritage River organizes a river and trail clean-up.  Literally tons of refuse have been removed from the river and trail systems each year.  We teach our clients to “Take only pictures and leave only ripples”.

Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company is one of the longest operating companies in the Grand River watershed and is still operated by its founder Adam Fernley….no new management here.

The Grand Paddle was a huge success.   Well over one ton of garbage was removed from the river.   Much of the grabage had been in the river for decades.

A special thanks goes out to Bill Peat manager of the Delhi LCBO and his volunteers!

 The 7th annual Grand Paddle River and Trail Clean-up took place on July 1st.

 The kickoff  was  at 10:00am at Bean Park 4 Spencer Street Paris, Ontario.

Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company arranged for a bus (donated by Sharps Bus Lines) to pick up paddlers and hikers at our boat rental concession in the Brant Conservation Area at 9:30am.  Those wishing to paddle the river dropped their canoe/kayak at Bean Park in Paris and then drove to Brant Conservation Area for the free ride up river to Paris.

Another wonderful way a family can reconnect is on a raft trip.  As rafts can carry more than two or three people they are ideal for the family to get out into nature and stay close to each other without anyone wandering off on their own. 

Many people think of rafting as a thrill sport with lots of rapids and white water. However the rafting we are talking about is more placid and great for family members of all ages.  These are rafting float trips where the raft gently glides down a moving river giving the occupants plenty of time to take in the natural surroundings and spend time communicating with one another.
