Ontario School Field Trips on the Grand River
Our trips follow and exceed OPHEA guidelines for canoe, kayak and rafting trips (recognized as Paddle Rafting by OPHEA). Our education programs are based on the concept of being a floating classroom. And for those that cannot get permission to paddle... we offer a hiking classroom experience.
Our outdoor trip offers a taste of everything... paddling lessons, native history, fish & wildlife identification, team building challenges of imagination, tree identification, survival skills, edible and medicinal plants of the First Nations, the art of man tracking, demonstrations of muskets from the past, how to fish, dance & sing with the Mohawks, group body drumming.
For guest speakers we have wildlife rehabilitation, medicine men, Metis drum builders, survivors from the Residential schools, flint knappers (making arrowheads from stone), Voyageur that has paddled the Canada fur trade routes and Native Story Tellers.
A 4-5 hour paddling itinerary includes orientation, a blind mans race, visiting a fresh water spring, stopping at an 1830 mine, hiking to a lookout learning edible medicinal plants, learning to make fire without matches, a BBQ site with washrooms for lunch, a 400m body surfing area, plus paddling a bit of easy splash.
Our goal is not to rush the students...but to give them as many different experiences as possible. So along the way, if the group is taking more time then scheduled... we have an early takeout point to keep the on time.
A group can bring lunch or their own food for a BBQ along the river. We provide waterproof bags in each raft for cameras and cell phones.
We have the capacity to raft up to 200 students a trip... or 150 students in canoes or 50 students in kayaks. We are open 7 days a week from April til November.
Cost for a 4-5 hour floating classroom is $35.00 per person plus tax with all guides, rafts, paddles, life jackets, dry bags and learning experiences. If group needs a bus shuttle back to the start point... add $5.00 per person plus HST. A gas BBQ at the picnic site can be rented for $30 plus HST per BBQ.
We also have cabin accommodations and tenting sites for groups of up to 75-80 people... and can offer multi day programs.

Paddling the Grand River is a must do!
In our area the river averages 1 meter in depth with a 2 km/hr current speed... so if you tip over, stand up! The wilderness landscape is filled with all types of birds... people find it hard to believe they are one hour from Toronto
You need to make reservations by email or phone in advance... because we meet you where your trip starts.
It is important to recognize that the weather-news channels are about 20% accurate in their daily forecasting... we are around 85% accurate!
If the weather is bad, we will contact you telling you to save your money and not come. With our cancelation you can get a full refund or pick another date... whatever is best for you.
Also if water levels are what we consider unsafe to paddle... we will cancel our trips with the option to raft or go in a non-tip yak... your safety with us is more important than your money!
We are the only incorporated outfitter business on the river carrying full liability as required by the Grand River Conservation Authority.
We have risk management plans in place, adult waivers and youth consent forms... and our interpretive staff is top notch, undergoing a 3 week training course.
